Although the Continental Grand Prix 5000 is still one of the fastest and most popular road bike tires, it didn't stop the German manufacturer's developers from bringing to market a tubeless-ready (TR) version, improved in all areas.
At first glance, the 5000 S TR is barely distinguishable from the previous version. However, the familiar Lazer Grip tread pattern conceals a completely newly developed design. Unlike the previous version, the 5000 S TR has only 2 casing layers under the tread, not 3. This ensures better adaptation to the surface and significantly helps to reduce rolling resistance by 20%. Thanks to the Vectran Breaker puncture protection layer and the anti-slip Black Chili tread taken over from the previous version, the reduced number of layers does not negatively affect puncture protection. The sidewalls still consist of 3 layers, with an added new protective layer. This not only improves side puncture resistance by 28% but also ensures that the tire operates more stably at lower pressures. The new, patented Tubeless Ready, which does not require a sealing rubber layer, makes the tire 50 grams lighter than the previous version.
The new 5000 S TR, long awaited by many Conti fans, is now also compatible with "hooked" rims. However, it can still be ridden with classic clincher rims and with an inner tube.
The new Tubeless tire has already proven its outstanding characteristics and versatility in races. The 5000 S TR claimed the world championship title in individual time trials and victory at Paris-Roubaix.
