La Stelvio Santini Road & Gravel offers challenges for both road and gravel cyclists in one of the world’s most iconic mountain regions. The road routes wind through the alpine landscapes of Alta Valtellina, taking participants over the legendary Mortirolo and Stelvio climbs. Three routes starting from Bormio are designed for those who want to experience the thrill of major mountain ascents. You will ride through breathtaking alpine scenery, conquering the Mortirolo and the Stelvio Pass — two true icons of cycling. Each participant can choose a route that matches their fitness and ambition, ranging from more accessible options to the most demanding challenge. It is an experience that combines passion, effort, and the beauty of nature in the heart of Alta Valtellina.
Routes and Riding Conditions
The road routes run through the alpine landscapes of Alta Valtellina, taking participants over the legendary Mortirolo and Stelvio climbs. There are three distances to choose from: 64km (2280 meters of elevation gain), 108km (3050 meters of elevation gain), and 130km (4270 meters of elevation gain). All routes start and finish in Bormio and offer a true mountain cycling experience with long and steep ascents.
The gravel routes take riders onto gravel and forest roads, passing around the Cancano Lakes and across high-altitude alpine plateaus. There are two distances to choose from: 44km (1400 meters of elevation gain) and 70km (2000 meters of elevation gain), offering varied terrain, technical sections, and breathtaking views. The VO2 Explorer team is happy to help you choose the most suitable distance and provide guidance for your preparation.
